CO-OP SPOTLIGHT Keion Skaggs Keion is a senior in the Automotive Technology program. Ever since he was a child, he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father and become an auto mechanic. This year, Keion chose to participate in a co-op placement at Quick Way Auto Sales to gain hands-on experience, earn some extra money, and enjoy time outside the traditional classroom setting. At Quick Way, he performs a variety of automotive tasks including brake repairs, tire services, and general vehicle maintenance. Keion values the positive work environment, especially the mentorship he receives from his boss, Joe, who treats him like family. Keion is currently in the process of earning his PA State Inspection license. After graduation, Keion plans to continue working at Quick Way Auto Sales and further develop his skills in the field. CO-OP SPOTLIGHT Haiden Cobb Haiden is currently a junior enrolled in the Automotive Technology program, where he has chosen to pursue hands-on learning experiences over traditional classroom settings. His decision to join the program was driven by a desire to engage directly with vehicles and gain practical skills. One of Haiden's favorite aspects of the auto shop program is the opportunity to work on actual vehicles, which allows him to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. He appreciates the dynamic learning environment, the camaraderie with peers, and the guidance provided by his instructor, Mr. Boylan. To further enhance his automotive skills, Haiden opted for the cooperative education (co-op) program. Haiden is currently completing his co-op at Bradford Tire Center. During his time at Bradford Tire Center, Haiden had the opportunity to work on many vehicles, from compact cars to SUVs, as well as specialized equipment such as garbage trucks and tractors. His responsibilities include performing routine maintenance tasks like oil changes and tire rotations, as well as more complex repairs. This hands-on experience has not only expanded Haiden's technical skills but also provided him with insights into the daily operations of an auto repair shop. He values the real-world experience and the opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals in the field. Looking ahead, Haiden plans to continue his co-op at Bradford Tire Center throughout the summer and into his senior year. #OwlPride #CTE

CO-OP SPOTLIGHT Carson Bishop Carson, a senior in our Well Drilling program, embarked on this path during his sophomore year to learn more about the oil and gas industry, welding, and mechanical work. Recognizing the value of hands-on experience, he transitioned into a co-op position, allowing him to gain practical, on-the-job training while earning an income. This decision not only accelerated his career trajectory but also provided the opportunity to spend half the school day engaged in work he is passionate about. Carson started his welding internship/co-op training in October of 2023 at Allegheny Bradford Corporation. Besides working and learning in the welding department he also willingly helped out in other departments as needed. Effective April 27, 2025 Carson became Manual GTAW (TIG) Welding and Orbital Automated Pipe Welding procedure qualified. By passing the above procedures he is now qualified as ASME and PED Code Certified. ASME stand for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ Boiler and Pressure Vessel code & standards. PED is the European Pressure Equipment Directive which is similar to the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. With the qualification Carson was promoted to the position of Welder. Upon graduation Carson has accepted full-time first shift employment with Allegheny Bradford Corporation. ABC is a recognized leader providing stainless steel solutions to multiple industries – pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food and beverage, chemical, electronic processing, and others. CO-OP SPOTLIGHT Nick Degolier Nick is currently a junior enrolled in our carpentry program. He chose this path to engage in hands-on work, enjoy outdoor activities, and acquire new skills. His favorite aspect of the class has been learning to read blueprints and mastering the use of various tools. In February, Nick began his co-op placement with Bob Frantz, the Facilities Manager at the YWCA. In this role, he assists with tasks such as demolition, interior and exterior remodeling, and the installation of doors, windows, trim, and cabinets. Nick finds the work environment at the YWCA to be friendly and appreciates the opportunity to collaborate with great people. He enjoys the variety of tasks, which allows him to learn something new every day. Nick plans to continue his work at the YWCA this summer and aims to maintain his co-op position there during his senior year. #OwlPride #CTE

CO-OP SPOTLIGHT Sean Ward Sean is a dedicated junior in the Automotive Technology program. He is driven by a passion for repairing vehicles and a desire to gain hands-on experience in the field. His enthusiasm for working on cars and trucks led him to enroll in the program, where he appreciates the opportunity to learn from Mr. Boylan, "The Best Auto Teacher," and collaborate with friends who share similar interests. Sean participates in the High School Intern (HSI) Program with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). This program offers vocational technology students the chance to gain real-world experience by working half-days during the school year and summer. Through his co-op placement at PennDOT's Lewis Run facility, Sean works on a diverse range of equipment, including plow trucks, semis, loaders, and excavators. He values the exposure to various machinery and the opportunity to learn from experienced diesel mechanics. Looking ahead, Sean plans to continue co-op with PennDOT during the summer and into his senior year, aiming to further develop his skills and prepare for a successful career in the automotive and diesel technology industry. The HSI Program not only provides students like Sean with valuable work experience but also opens pathways to potential full-time employment with PennDOT upon graduation. Sean's commitment to his education and professional development exemplifies the benefits of combining classroom learning with practical experience, setting a strong foundation for his future in the automotive field. #OwlPride #CTE

CO-OP SPOTLIGHT Joe Cary Joe is a senior in our Well Drilling program who chose to participate in co-op to gain more welding experience. For his co-op placement, Joe worked at Swanson’s Fabrication, where he learned valuable skills such as metal cutting, welding, and drilling holes in pipes. He enjoyed the experience because of the supportive and kind team he worked with. Joe plans to continue working at Swansons throughout the summer until he goes to school in the fall. He will be attending Alfred State College to pursue CNC programming. Good luck, Joe. #OwlPride #CTE

CO-OP SPOTLIGHT Zayli Thompson Zayli is a senior in the marketing program who found her marketing classes both engaging and easy to understand. For her co-op placement, Zayli chose to work at the YMCA, where she welcomed members, processed membership paperwork, assisted with customer concerns, and performed various administrative tasks. She especially enjoyed her time at the YMCA because it allowed her to build meaningful relationships with community members—plus, getting paid during the school day was a nice bonus. After graduation, Zayli plans to continue working at the YMCA over the summer before attending the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in the fall. While she is still exploring her options for a major, she envisions a future career that offers a flexible schedule and opportunities to travel. Congratulations, Zayli! #OwlPride #CTE

CO-OP SPOTLIGHT Kyler Hogue Kyler is a junior in the carpentry program and has always wanted to follow in his father's footsteps to become a skilled carpenter. He has a strong interest in both framing and finish work and enjoys expanding his knowledge and skills in these areas. Within the program, Kyler serves as the class representative, demonstrating leadership and commitment to his trade. This year, Kyler chose to participate in the co-op program, allowing him to gain valuable hands-on experience while earning an income and maintaining the flexibility needed to continue playing travel sports—something that would be more difficult with a traditional part-time job. He currently works at Gleason Construction, where he likes the supportive work environment, the opportunity to collaborate with a team, and the chance to learn tips from experienced carpenters. On the job, Kyler assists with cutting and cleaning materials, forming and pouring concrete pads and curbs, and performing a variety of general carpentry tasks. He plans to continue working at Gleason Construction throughout the summer and return for co-op during his senior year. #OwlPride #CTE

Big news from BAHS! Senior Ethan Rochna was selected to perform with the NAfME All-Eastern Honors Concert Band — one of the highest honors a high school instrumentalist can receive in the eastern U.S.! Ethan went to Hartford, Connecticut, to rehearse and perform with top student musicians from 11 states and D.C. This prestigious opportunity only comes around every two years — and he’s the first instrumentalist in BAHS history to achieve this honor! CO-OP SPOTLIGHT Zane Pressler Zane is a senior in the Marketing program who chose to participate in co-op to gain real-world experience and take advantage of the opportunity to work during the school day. He enjoys the fast-paced nature of the workplace and prefers hands-on learning over a traditional classroom setting. Through his co-op placement at McDonald’s, where he serves as a crew trainer, Zane has been able to apply the customer service and communication skills he developed in his marketing classes. He likes working at McDonalds with his friends because even during busy or stressful times, the crew comes together to create a supportive and enjoyable environment. After graduation, Zane plans to continue working at McDonald’s full time. Congratulations, Zane. #OwlPride #CTE

CO-OP SPOTLIGHT Marissa Newman As a senior in the Health Occupations program, Marina has demonstrated a strong commitment to healthcare and hands-on learning. Drawn to nursing by her deep passion for patient care, Marina especially enjoyed the clinical portion of the program, where she had the opportunity to put classroom theory into practice in real healthcare environments. After earning her CNA certification in January, she began her co-op placement at the Bradford Ecumenical Home. There, she has found the experience both rewarding and educational, as she supports residents and continues to build her skills. After graduation, Marina plans to attend Slippery Rock University to study biology, with aspirations of becoming an OB/GYN. Best of luck to Marina as she pursues her future in medicine. #OwlPride #CTE
