No Cell Phone Policy

Dear Bradford Area School District Families,

The presence of cell phones in schools has sparked ongoing discussions about their negative impact on students' academic performance, social development and overall well-being. States around our country, including Pennsylvania, are developing strategies for schools to limit these negative consequences. While cell phones offer convenience and connectivity, their usage in schools presents constant distractions and negatively impacts the educational experience.

With the goal of improving academic achievement, encouraging face-to-face interactions among students, and minimizing distractions and disruptions, The Bradford Area School District is adopting new expectations pertaining to communication devices. Beginning in August with the start of the 2025-2026 school year, students will not be permitted to use or have access to their cell phones during the school day.

Students must keep their phones off and stored in their lockers or designated areas from the start of the school day until dismissal. Phones will not be allowed in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria or restrooms. If a student needs to contact a parent or guardian, they may do so from the main office. In case of an emergency, parents can reach their child through the school's main office.

We understand that this is a significant change at the high school level. Our goal is to create the best possible learning environment for our students.

Thank you,

Erin Waugaman
