Well Drilling and Petroleum Technology

This program is designed to give a graduating student the basic skills to enter the high demand occupations in the local and regional petroleum and natural gas industry.  The skills developed through this program will be applicable to entry level positions in the field as well as to students entering post-secondary education in fields related to the petroleum and natural gas industries.

 

This program will focus on skills related to well drilling & completion, petroleum geology & exploration, petroleum & natural gas chemistry, petroleum gathering & transportation, well logging, hydraulic fracking, and environmental safety.

 

An individual completing this program could pursue the following career paths:

 

 

Some of the careers that a student could go into after graduation include: 

  • Well driller
  • Roustabout
  • Pumper
  • Oil Field Service Worker
  • Well Tender
  • Heavy Equipment Operator
  • Truck Driver
  • Welder 

 

Students should be aware that many of these careers require additional training or post -secondary education. 

 

There are also a growing number of jobs locally and regionally in this industry that require post-secondary associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in majors such as Petroleum Technology, Petroleum Engineering and Geology.
