Use Policy - Bradford Area Schools
When
you use the computer technology (including the Internet) in
the Bradford Area High School, you are responsible for
what you choose to access and do. Even though almost
all of our Internet computers use a filtering system, be aware
that a filter can never remove everything that is inappropriate.
We give you the responsibility to determine, within certain
guidelines, what is appropriate and acceptable to do and access
in a school setting. Here are the rules:
Every
student must have...
- A
Signed Technology and Computer Use Form.
This form needs to be signed by the student and his/her
parents or guardians, and is valid as long as you stay with
the same parents or guardians. By signing this form, the
students and parents/guardians are agreeing to the School
Board Policy 814.1 on Technology and Computer Use .
Each student is given the signoff form at the beginning
of his or her ninth-grade year, or when they enroll in the
high school as a new student.
Students
may not...
Among
other activities, Board Policy 814.1 forbids students to...
- Use
the Internet connection for illegal activity .
If it's illegal off the computer, it's illegal on it, too.
Examples include hacking or buying and selling contraband
items.
- Use
the Internet connection for personal gain. We're
talking money, here. You may not use our computers
to run a business, trade stocks, advertise, etc.
- Subscribe
to any service in the name of the school or school district.
Even if it's free, don't use our name to subscribe
to anything. Use yours.
- Alter
settings or install software .
- Access
inappropriate or pornographic sites or databases.
Consider that you're in a public place. Therefore,
swearing, rude gestures, pornographic pictures, etc. should
not appear on the screen or be heard through the speakers.
We may also ask you not to access certain sites that have
no apparent academic value.
- Access
chat lines . This is for your safety and for the
security of the school.
- Impersonate
anyone else .
- Transmit
any personnel or student information that would
be protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy
Act.
E-mail
is restricted to academic use only and must be cleared
with a librarian first. We will monitor what you send
out and what you open in school.
Consequences
Students
who do not abide by policy 814.1 will receive disciplinary
action according to the policy and the student conduct code.
Students may lose technology privileges and/or be removed
from a course. Students may also be required to complete
a training session, make reimbursement for loss/damage and/or
the technologist's repair time, and/or serve detention, in-school-
or out-of-school suspension.
For
more information, or for a copy of the policy, please contact
Linda Callaghan, Technology Consultant, or one of the
Librarians.
