Grade 9 - .60 Units
This course will consist of a study of the following topics:
basic anatomy and physiology, chronic and disabling diseases,
chemical regulators of the body, teenage problems, mental health,
community health, infectious disease control and family relationships.
Health is scheduled three times per week opposite physical education
for the entire school year.
Health 12
Grade 12 - .60 Units
Required in grade 12, health education is designed to help students
make intelligent decisions, both now and in the future, in regard
to decision making and matters of personal, family and community
health. Health instruction offers experience aimed at improving
knowledge, practices and attitudes related to life conservation
such as consumer health, communicable and non-communicable disease,
consumer quackery, family living, nutrition and mental health.
Also included is a major unit in Standard First Aid and Personal
Safety which, upon successful completion by the student, leads
to national Red Cross certification in Standard First Aid and
Personal Safety. The course is taught three (3) times a week
opposite physical education throughout the entire year.
Physical Education
Grade 9, 10, 11, 12 - .40 Units
Physical Education provides a wide range of activities aimed
at developing individual physical strength and coordination
as well as appreciation for various lifetime sports activities.
Participation in a varied program of experiences stimulates
social and emotional growth and provides knowledge of activities
that can be used in after school hours and future life leisure.
Physical education is scheduled twice per week throughout the
entire school year.
Safety Education (F or S)
Grade 10 - .20 Units
Safety Education acquaints a student with the traffic problem
as it exists today and provides an opportunity to learn what
he/she must do to be classified as a "safe" driver. Rules of
the road, laws and psychological factors are included. Particular
emphasis is placed on attitude development
Behind the wheel
Grade 11, 12 - Scheduled by instructor
The behind-the-wheel portion of driver education consists of
six (6) clock hours of driving practice. These hours are scheduled
both during the school day and after school by the instructor.
A certificate is awarded based upon satisfactory completion
of safety education and the behind-the-wheel driving experience.
