Entry Level French

Grade 9, 10, 11 ,12 - 1 unit

This course is designed to review, reinforce and increase basic skills acquired in 8th grade French. French I also introduces the student to different aspects of French culture, not only in France, but the Francophone world.

French II

This is a continuation of the French I course. It is the purpose of this course to introduce more complex vocabulary and grammar structures which will lead to improved, sustained conversation and discussion in French. To increase vocabulary and demonstrate comprehension, the class will present dialogues, compositions, prepared posters and group activities to the class.

*French III

Grade 10, 11, 12 - 1 unit
This course is also a continuation of the French I course, but there will be increased student involvement in the presentation and creation of class and group activities. In order to improve sustained student self-expression in French, the class members will create and present dialogues, projects, posters and games in the target language. More complex grammar structures will be introduced. To enhance conversational skills, the class will be conducted in French with minimal English usage. There will also be creative writing activities on a variety of chapter related topics. The student will continue the study of French culture. Chapter grammar and vocabulary will be used in discussions about French culture and people and places from France and the Francophone world.

*French IV

Grade 11, 12 - 1 Unit
In this class, the student becomes aware of the benefits gained by having learned a good foundation of vocabulary and grammatical structures. A major part of the class work and grade is oral use of French in class. Increased study of French culture, history, geography and literature will include presentations in French to the class.

*French V

Grade 12 - 1 Unit
This course culminates a five-year language program. The student easily expresses his/her thoughts, feelings and responses in French. As the year progresses, the students move toward almost total classroom control. They determine projects, design evaluative materials and present materials to the class. Emphasis is placed on sustained speaking in French about topics dealing with French art, literature and culture. A unit on French films provides the student the opportunity to discuss and critique award winning French films.
