Education consists of a group of courses dealing with technology,
human relations, and communications needed to prepare students
for work or higher education.
Note
to students: Computer Applications I and II or Microtype are
required prerequisites for all computer courses (indicated

Accounting I

A must
for any student who is planning to get a degree in Accounting
or Business Management. This course covers the analysis and
recording of business transactions for personal or vocational
use. It introduces the basic principles of double-entry bookkeeping
and prepares one to keep formal books of entry such as journals
and ledgers, and to prepare simple financial statements. The
student will complete the accounting cycle, learn to write
checks and receipts, reconcile bank statements and keep simple
payroll records. Students get a hands-on experience through
two simulation projects in which they generate accounting
records for a business.
Accounting II (Scholar)
Grade 11, 12 -

This
course covers departmental and payroll accounting, partnership,
corporation and manufacturing cost accounting. It develops
the knowledge one will need to maintain proper records for
efficient management. The fundamentals of Accounting I are
reviewed before proceeding to the advanced work. Students
get a hands-on experience through two simulation projects
in which they generate accounting records for a business.
Business Math
Grade 9, 10, 11,

Students
will apply basic business math skills by completing selected
business problems and simulations on electronic calculators.
Topics covered include payroll and taxes, borrowing and investing,
consumer purchases and business management.
Business Training
Grade 9, 10 - 1
Unit
Learning
about careers in the world of business. Specific areas include
business and its environment, forms of business ownership,
production and marketing, finance, personnel, personal finances,
and management functions.
Computer Applications
I (F)

Do
you already feel confident about your keyboarding skills?
This is the course for you. Students will learn how to format
letters, memos, reports, and tables. Computer applications
include word processing, database, spreadsheet, and graphics.
Software packages used include Microsoft Word, Access, and
Excel.
Computer Applications
II (S)

Prerequisite: Computer Applications I - 1 Semester
Provides
the student with a more in-depth experience in word processing.
The course incorporates skills learned in Computer Applications
I, which the student will apply to various on-the-job type
projects. Software package used is Word Perfect.

Using
a spreadsheet program to build an electronic worksheet. Application
problems relate to everyday financial calculations. Students
use the software packages Microsoft Excel and Lotus 1-2-3.

For
the student who would like to organize data. Learning will
involve creating and organizing a database into a table, form,
or report. Students will also learn how to retrieve and analyze
the database information. Software packages include Access
and Paradox.
*Document Processing
Grade 10, 11, 12
- 1 Unit
For
the student that has mastered the keyboard and who enjoys
doing word processing work using desktop publishing features.
Each student will learn how to create enhanced written documents.
This includes working with fonts, draw, text art, and graphics.
The student will use a scanner and a digital camera. Students
use the software packages WordPerfect and PowerPoint.
Law and You I (F)
Grade 11, 12 -

Do
you want to know more about the law, entering into contracts
and being a consumer? Students will participate in a mock
trial. Criminal Law and Contract Law are covered and supplemented
with guest speakers.
Law and You II
(S)
Grade 11, 12 -

Topics
include the legal aspects of employment contracts, personal
rights and responsibilities, money and banking, entrepreneurship
and retirement. Guest speakers add a real life practicality
to the topics covered.
*Micro Accounting
I (F)
Grade 11, 12 -

Prerequisite: Accounting I - 1 Semester
Presents
automated accounting principles and provides a hands-on approach
for learning how automated accounting systems function. Topics
include: general ledger, accounts receivable and payable and
financial reports.
*Micro Accounting
II (S)
Grade 11, 12 -

Prerequisite: Accounting I - 1 Semester
Provides
a computerized approach to solving advanced accounting applications
for a departmentalized business. The course includes computerized
depreciation and financial statement analysis. The course
also includes an introduction to spreadsheet programming and
related problem solving applications.
Microtype
Grade 9, 10, 11,
12 - 1 Unit
Students
will have an opportunity to improve their keyboarding technique.
Classroom activities include learning the keyboard, skill
building for speed and accuracy, and the formatting of basic
written documents. Computer applications in word processing,
data base, spreadsheet, and graphics are included. Software
packages used are Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel.
Office Procedures
Grade 11, 12 -
1 Unit
Prerequisite: Document Processing and/or Datafile/Datacalc
This
program provides opportunities for students to learn and perform
occupational skills on the job or in the classroom. Students
will tie in all their experience in business computer classes
to complete simulated on-the-job problems. Students will use
whatever software package is necessary to complete the problems
most efficiently. Students will be placed when job sites are
available based on their interests, skills and abilities.
