Learning Support Library Nurse Gifted Program

Academics - 6th Grade

Computer Education

This class meets every day for 6 weeks.  The purpose of this course is to provide a knowledge base of what computers are, how they work and how to apply and integrate computer skills across the curriculum.  The students will first develop a knowledge of the importance of Keyboarding, the Home Row keys, correct keyboarding posture and technique.   They will be able to type 12 WPM at 90% accuracy.   The students will learn what word processing is the electronic processing of letters, words, sentences; data.   Using Microsoft Word, they will learn to create documents, edit, delete, move, copy, cut & paste blocks of text within these documents, spell check their work and save their documents.  The students will learn to use a graphic software program (PrintShop) to create cards, calendars, signs, and report covers using appropriate fonts and clip art.
